Bittersweet Kindergarten

I'm a little sad this morning.  I walked my baby girl to school this morning for her first day of kindergarten.  Of course, my child just walked in and started playing.  She paid little mind to me.  I know that's good.  It means I've raised her to be independent but it's a little sad at the same time.

Here she is before our walk

Can you see that she's wearing a hairclip?
It's this one:

She wanted to wear one of the new hairclips that I had recently made.  Who could say "no" to that!

:o)

  1. Congratulations on raising a well-adjusted, independent daughter! I hope her first day goes beautifully. Glad to see the issues with school are resolved.

  2. Yes, as both a former kindergarten teacher and a mom, I know that that first school farewell is usually more difficult for the mom than for the kid. I shed a few tears the day my child went to kindergarten, intermediate school, and high school. I'm kind of hoping I'll be able to avoid the tears next year when she goes to college--but I kind of doubt it! ;-)

  3. Totally understand! My youngest told me "mom, go home, I will be ok!"
Hope she has an awesome day!!! :)

  5. Big step for Livi, I'm glad she went off happily, even though that was difficult for you!

  6. Big day for both of you! When Moe (now in 10th grade) started kindergarten, he flat out refused to have me take him to school. He wanted to ride the bus like the big boys!

  7. A big day and she looks a credit to you, I remember my first day I cried when mother left me, and my husband told me his mother left him at school and he turned around and followed her home across a busy main road. He was walked back to school.

  8. Not an easy day for Mom...but an exciting one. Remember Dr Seuss said "Don't cry because it's over. Smile because it happened." The first 5 years are precious, but today was/is also a gift...

  9. Oh that brings back memories as the teacher of four/five year olds starting school for the first time. Most kids were fine but it was the odd mum who burst into tears that upset me! I knew the kids would be fine within minutes but it was the thought of those poor women going home and being upset all day that I didn't like. Well done, Livvi - and mum!!!

  10. Congrats Livi on your first day of school. Mom will survive today and each of the steps you take on your way in this life.

Jess, good for you that she is so independent. That makes for a good beginning on being a very good adult person who will think for herself and not just follow the crowd.

  12. I remember dropping daughter off at day care to take the bus and then cried a few tears half way to work thinking she was not mine anymore (in the hands of school). You both will do well.
