More Tatted MOBs

MOB: Motif on Button
Like it??

This flower was tatted with Tat-ilicious "4-Eva" size 40.

This flower was tatted with size 20 Tat-ilicious "Little Boy Blue" (I will have some at Tat Days!!!!)

Remember this abbreviated Spinning Glass Mat??

Buttons plus tatting (and a progress report on my coin purse)

Do you remember this cute little flower?

Well,(stepping back in thought a bit)  recently Susie crocheted my some flowers to put on a headband for my baby niece. Here is my niece with the headband, but you can't really see the flower which was super cute.

Anyway, the special thing about the flower was that there was one button and several flowers that could be traded out on the headband.
When I got to looking at this flower that I recently showed, I got to thinking that the same thing should work.
So, the plan now is to tat more flowers to put on this barrette that I made up with a button.  Pretty neat right?

And my coin purse:

I am done with the flap mostly. When I get done with the bag, I think I might do a small edging around the flap to "reinforce" it a bit since I am not regretting only putting one ring on the other side of the button hole.

Here is it lying open.

And... what's a button hold without a button to fill it. :o)

:o( I am a little sad that I wasn't paying attention when I added that picot in the top corner of the flap.  But, once I add a little edging around there... who will really notice?

Oh, and I did switch up colors.  It's actually really funny, because I said I was going to switch color but then I thought it would look funny.  But turns out I missplaced the bobbin that contains the original thread.  Since there was no way that I was going to wait to finish this bag until I found the original color.. I went ahead and picked a different but somewhat similar colorway.  And now, I think it looks funny. lol  It'll be alright though. If the bag turns out well, I plan to make more. :o) I think it would look really neat in two solid colors.

4-Eva!

Now, generally when you see 4eva online, or on your phone, it means forever. Right?
But, not today!
4-Eva, means that this colorway is for Eva.  (but I have also stocked a few skeins in the shop as well)
Here lately I've been talking about how I might go out of town to see a relative of Chris's.
Well, it ended up that we didn't have the money to go, which I was really bummed about.  I was bummed because we were going to be Diane's neck of the woods and I had already been trying to make plans to meet up with her while I was going to be there.
Not only that, but I was going be able to meet Diane's daughter and granddaughter.  So, since I was not able to meet with them, I decided to dye up a special batch of thread for the young tatter Eva, (Diane's granddaughter).  So, once I was told that Ms. Eva's favorite colors are pink, blue, and green... I got to work :o)

And this the result:

Pretty, right?

So, I will be sending Ms. Eva and Mrs. Diane a skein each.  But, really I wish they were tatting with me rather than just my thread, but this will just have to do for now until I can actually make the trip up there.

:o)

Tooth Fairy Time!!!

My baby's sweet semi-toothless smile.  And a small glimpse of me as a reflection.

See?  Didn't I mention a time or two that I was not good at sewing??
Livi had some old tights, so I cut the foot off of them.  I then sewed on a little pocket for her tooth to go in and then attempted to sew up the bottom so that it would look like a tooth.
As you can see, we also made the tooth fairy a small necklace.  This was made simply out of a hair tie and a pendant that I just happened to have around. And of course, the small, teeny tiny white thing is my baby's first lost baby tooth.  **tear!**

:o)

I'm getting pretty far on my coin purse.  I am (almost) half way through and have completed half of the flap.
Of course, I am getting a little tired of the colors, so I think I will choose a different colorway for the second half.  I'll try to make sure they atleast look semi decent together though :o)

Working on a coin purse...

So, the mood struck the other day to start a coin purse. I have started in one corner and went down with one row.  Then when I felt it was long enough, I made a small split ring for the bottom and then started on the backside while attaching the split ring to split rings of the front side.  Once I had tatted the first row, I just did a "lopsided" split ring to start the next row.

It's going to take me a while to get it the size I want, but I like how it is looking so far!  As you can see, and as I have already kind of revealed:  It's is made up entirely of split rings. :o)

Also, once I feel that I am about at the half way point for this purse, I will start making one side much longer than the other so that there can a flap.  I am also considering not attaching some of the split rings on the flap for the purpose of a button hole.  That should be interesting.  I do not plan to attach the button to the tatting itself.  That' seems like it would be too rough on it.  Instead, I will attach it to something behind the tatting, if that makes sense. :o)

The thread is size 40, some that I dyed up.

I am still dyeing but I've made the executive decision to keep the my progress under wraps so that I can ensure that I do well and have enough stock to offer at Tat Days in September.  It was a hard decision to make, but it was a necessary one.

However, I will be doing a special batch tomorrow that will be going into my Etsy shop early next week.

Starting the new challenge with "Stardust"

Really, I don't actually think the thread looks very much like "Stardust" but when I was trying to think of a name for it.. all I could think was that it reminded me of the speckled paper that I use to create the envelopes for my packages.  If you have gotten a package from me that was made from speckled white paper, then you know what I am talking about.
But if not, here's a pic:
So, the paper just so happens to be called "Stardust".  I "dyed" this thread quite a while back, but didn't give it much thought until recently. And really, I only dyed three skeins of size 20 and one of those I have kept for myself.  Anyway, I say "dye" because the way this was dyed was by taking dry powder dye and lightly brushing it around the wet thread.  That way, only small flecks of dye got on the thread.  This means that the different colors that are in the mix of gray that I used were separated.  That's what causes this effect:

Looks pretty cool if you ask me.   It's no work of art, but it's fun.

This is what it looks like worked up:

(1/25)
This little flower was tatted with Size 20 "Stardust"
I guess you could call it a "doodle" or just a playing around motif.
I like it.

The abbreviated pattern is
Round 1
Ring  6+3-3
Chain 5+5+
Round 2
Chain +8+8
Round 3
Chain +12-4+4+12+

Keep Your Money, I want a Yo-yo!

Ummm, okay....

Livi got her first loose tooth tonight.  We are super excited.  Of course, we called Daddy first thing.  Just because he doesn't live with us doesn't mean that he's out of the loop.  Anyway, Chris asked if she thought the tooth fairy was going to leave her some money for the tooth (when it falls out of course).  She said she was hoping for a toy like a yo-yo instead. lol

Kids are so great!

I drew this up... but really in retrospect, I guess I should have put a yo yo in the picture. :o)
This is a sad revelation since I literally drew this picture like 3 minutes ago.

And bracelets finish up this challenge.

I have been so extremely tired all day, but for some reason I have had the unrelenting "need" to start and finish projects.  This is not usual for me.  Maybe it's hormonal... maybe it's that I didn't get any sleep last night so as a last ditch effort to stay awake, I have found things to keep me busy...
What ever the reason, this is the fruit of my day's labor:
So, this one... was done with HWT, two strands of size 40 thread.  One is Lizbeth Turquoise Light and the other is Purple Medium. I used two shuttles for the split rings without beads.  Then I dropped one shuttle and finished that way.  I did the two sides separately then fed the excess thread through the middle bead and sewed them in on the other side.  The bead in the middle is plastic and very light, so that's good.

I am really excited about this one.  The center medallion is one of Sherry's ceramic medallions.  I glued a bit of blue jean to the back.  The tatting is my own Mindanao Gum size 40.  The clasp is magnetic.

These two bracelets make for #24 & 25, so I'll be starting back at number 1 with my next piece. :o)

Now, this flower
I haven't decided entirely what I want to do with it.  I know I spent over an hour securing all those tags on there, making sure that they weren't floppy.  Floppy means they can be torn off.  I really love how it turned out.  My mom thinks I should put it on a hairclip.  I may do that... or us it as a centerpiece of a bracelet.  I would also make a cute ring.
Here is the back.
I covered one of these metal circles that has all the holes in it with a small felt circle and then sewed the tags in individually so that they would be very secure.

I plan to do something with all those little plates that I have connected together with jump rings. I don't know what yet though.

Little Guessing Game... Little Prize

WAAA!!!!  I ran out of size 20 last week (getting the new cone tomorrow) and now... the size 40 is almost gone.  I am so sad!  lol Not really... but it did get me to thinking:

How much is left??
How many skeins will I get out of this little bit that is left?

So, that got my brain geared up for a little guessing game giveaway.....

To enter the giveaway, comment with your guess as how many 50 yard skeins you think I will get out of this little bit that is left?

Please keep in mind that if I run into a huge knot, I'll cut it and set that bit aside. In other words, that bit won't count.  However, if I find just a tiny blip or burr... (what ever they are called... I will refer to them as knots)... I'll keep going.  I wouldn't get upset if there were a solitary mishap/knot in a skein I bought, so I don't feel bad letting one small knot go by in the ones I sell.  However, I generally starting clipping when a second  knot comes up when I am winding.  But... I am getting off topic now.

So, what's the prize?  The winner will receive a skein of size 40 hdt, and I'll even let you choose the colorway (as long as it's one of mine lol).  I am going to limit this to size 40 because I have a hard enough time trying to keep size 20 stocked. lol

Good luck.
The contest is over when we have a winner!

Anyone interested in Size 10 glitter

This is not Lizbeth, (first and foremost) This is Aunt Lydia's (If I remember correctly), size 10 crochet cotton with glitter/tinsel.  It's dyed hot pink and light pink (some of the light pink areas look white)
This is technically a Messy Jess!-y.

I was going to keep it for myself, just because I wanted to try dyeing something with a little "sparkle", but really... I have been so busy dyeing and try to tat with my own thread to showoff the colorways, that I really don't see that I will have time to do anything with it.

I also don't want to put it in my shop due to the fact that I can't get a really good shot of it.  Plus, since it's not Lizbeth, and I have the little message in my welcome message saying that any size 10 is Lizbeth...
I would just rather keep that message up and send this one along here.

I wound up the entire 100 yard ball, but I am only asking for $7 and that includes shipping
You can purchase it right here:

There is only 1 though, so if it has already been bought, the link should take you to my shop. SO, if you find yourself in my shop and don't know how... then someone has already purchased this, and I just haven't gotten around to updating this post yet.
:o) 'Tis gone :o)

I did get the Pink Lemonade washed and dried and listed.  I only listed a few of them, because I really do need to build my stock for Tat Days. But, I also want to make them available for those are interested now.

On another note, Livi had her vaccinations last week for kindergarten.  This is what happened to the site:

We called the doctor about the huge blister, but she said that was not reaction to the vaccine.  Livi flipped out when the blister finally popped, and then blamed me because she walked into my foot while I was sitting on the couch... but that's a different story.
I washed it up really good, but has anyone every seen anything like that before?  Her leg seems to be fine now (though still a little swollen, but no blister), but it was really scary.

Well, never mind...

Well, I said the other day that I was going to be going out of town this weekend.  I got it all wrong though... it's NEXT weekend.  Chris's grandfather is sick, so he wants to go see him.

So, I have (had) 10 skeins of size 20 left, so I went ahead and wound up 9 size 40 and 5 size 60... and I tackled "Pink Lemonade" first.
When I did Pink Lemonade before, it sold out quickly.  But, that's more because I only had a couple of skeins and only in size 40.

They are not ready yet, so I will have to post pictures later. :o)

But, this is what I've been working on today:
I was thinking about entering something into the fair this year.  I don't think this will be it, because I messed up a bit hiding the ends on round 2.

23/25  (for my 25 motif challenge)

This is Havana size 40.  The piece is from Mary Maynard's Tatting a 4 square ring.  I counted the rows that are she shows in the book... there are like 15 rows.  I don't think that I will do all of that, but I do plan to make it a little bigger.

I don't know how this colorway looks on your computer, but on mine, the dark brown looks almost black.  So, if you are sitting there wondering why I would put black in this colorway.... don't worry, I didn't.. it's just a dark greenish brown.  It's quite pretty.  :o)

Wow, I seriously need to get my Redye on...

So, I was going to wait until we were firmly into August to start redyeing colorways that have sold out.  But, I just made up a list of colorways that I want to redye and as of right now, I have about 15+ colorways on the list.  So, with ~50 days until Tat Days...
That means, if I start now, I'll still have to get a batch out every 3 days to get just the redyes done.
WOW!

Here's my redye list so far (in no special order):
Fancy Fields
Serendipity
Little Boy Blue
Rainbowlicious
Macarons
Purple Pansy
Bahamas
Mindanao Gum
Key Lime Raspberry Parfait
Patriotic
Mother of Pearl
Blue Ridge
Queen Anthias
Pink Lemonade
Peacock
Calliope

Am I missing anything, are there any on this list that you think should be bumped up in importance?
I really do listen to these kinds of suggestions, so don't be afraid to speak up.

:o)

"Bahamas"

It would be wonderful to be able to say that the title of this post is "Bahamas" because I am planning to go to the Bahamas... but no.
"Bahamas" is the name of the newest colorway, which was inspired by Frivole.

Here is an example of "Bahamas" in size 60.  I was just messing around last night and when I got done with this little piece .. I thought it looked like a mask.  So, Barbie modeled it for me :o)

Here is the same mask beside a small flower that I tatted in size 40 "Genii"
My plan, for the flower, is put a small pearl like bead in the middle and then and a wire, so that it could be put in a little pot... or I may attach it to a hair clip.  Either way, it's super cute! (and super easy if anyone wants the pattern-- that goes for the tiny mask as well.)

Here's a reminder of what "Bahamas" looks like on the skein.
I will take some more pictures of these this evening and either list them in the shop tonight or tomorrow morning. :o)

UPDATE!! This week (well until Friday at least)only use the coupon "freeshipping" for free shipping.
OR "percentum" for 10% your total.
Your choice!

I found out today that we are going to be taking an unexpected trip this weekend (family illness),
so I may have to close the shop starting on Friday.

More Rainbowliciousness!

More Rainbowlicious! Looks good doesn't it??

Here's a sample of the yellow section.  As you may see, the one in the middle was affected by the dreaded purple splash.  There were a couple of skeins that didn't make the cut, because they actually had a brown spot as a result of the purple splash... but this one, I was able to remedy by smearing it out with more yellow dye.
Together, like above, you can tell that one looks muddy
But here:
An isolated skein (the same muddy skein as above) looks just as gorgeous as any other. :o)

ALL THINGS ARE RELATIVE

This is the newest colorway.
SO pretty.  This is an inspired colorway.
However, I am waiting for a confirmation on the name from the inspiring party,
so I will reveal the name soon.

Today was utter frustration.

So, I was going to go on a huge rant about my horrible no good very bad day... but I decided to spare you.
I'll sum it up...  I've been frustrated lately trying to make sure that Livi gets in the school that is in my neighborhood so that she doesn't get zoned to a Memphis school.  The reason that there is any question about what school she gets "zoned" to is that Chris(her daddy, my "fiance") had me put his utilities (in Memphis) in my name because he doesn't have any identification.  So, it's been a real hassle and a headache trying to get my name off the account. And until I get my name off of it, Livi can't go to the "good" school that is a walking distance of maybe 5 minutes, driving distance of 1 minute from the home that I have lived in for~ 20 years.::sigh::
So, as the tension rose today..all I wanted to do was dye up another batch of Rainbowlicious... and me being ole dummy Jess! decided that it was fine to carry a sopping wet cotton ball of purple dye right across the yellow section to get to where the purple should be.... I mean, what could possibly go wrong with that, right? I DID make it through red, orange, yellow, green, light blue, and dark blue without any drops of color landing anywhere unintentionally.
But never the less... now I have skeins of Rainbowlicious that have a dirty yellow section... BOO!!!

On a more positive note
I had wound up 21 (10 of 20 and 10 of 40... plus one 40 for myself)
and since 21 is too much to dye at one time, I only dyed half.  So I already have skeins wound up and waiting to dyed.
However, since I was planning on doing them all rainbow... I just grabbed a bunch of random ones to dye.  I have no idea what percentage of the messed up ones are 40 or 20.  I think they were mostly 40 though.

So,anyway... I am going to bed... Good night all!

Love this pattern!

Frivole has done it again! Minuet  is a super fun and an elegantly cute motif to tat.

I've tatted it here in size 40 Lizbeth Purple Md. and one of my Messy Jess!-y's (not one that is available)

Thanks Frivole for designing such an awesome pattern!! It's gorgeous!

An Almas Star and some of my Messy Jess!-y's worked up.

You like my new pic?
I hand drew it the other day.  I <3 it!

Here is some of my Messy Jess!-y 's worked up.  The purple, is the one in the shop (etsy, at least).
The small dark green patch is in the Storenvy shop, but will soon be in the Etsy shop if it isn't already.
Then the bright green isn't in either, but I have quite a few to put in soon.
The work up nice, don't you think?

I love this pattern, this one is tatted in my "Genii" colorway, size 40.

I really like these colors together. I don't like that I messed up in a few places, but that's alright.. at least it got finished, that's got to be worth something. lol

Thanks Jane- The Liebster Blog Award/ Tagged and more HDT

I was tagged by Jane

The Liebster Blog Award is given to upcoming bloggers who have 200 followers or less.

The word 'Liebster' is German and it means sweetest, kindest, nicest, dearest, beloved, lovely, kind, pleasant, valued, cute, endearing, and welcome.

Here're the Rules:

1. Each person must post 11 random facts about themselves
2. Answer 11 questions the tagger has given you and give 11 questions for the people you tagged
3. Choose 11 people and link them in your post
4. Tell them you've tagged them. Remember, no tag backs!

Facts
1.  Despite my love of animals, including the dog, cat, and 2 guinea pigs that I own, I am terribly allergic to animals.  I get swollen eyes, hives, and have difficulty breathing when I love on them too much.
2.  I love tomato and jalapenos on my pizza.
3. I don't like bacon- while everyone else is family loves it.
4. When I see ham or bacon, I think about this picture I saw years ago of a half eaten pig that had been roasted and served with the head attached.  The image makes me sick to my stomach.
5. I like to be called "Jess!", when I was younger it was always Jessi or Jessica.  Jessi sounds too young, and Jessica is a mouthful and ends with "ick-a".  But "Jess" wasn't enough for my free and creative spirit.  So, I like my name to be said with enthusiasm.  So to pronounce my name, it's "Jess" (plus the enthusiasm) and it's spelled: Jess!
6. I am trying to go to school so that I can become a pharmacist, but everyday life and mothering is making the task very difficult.
7. I have a "Carpe Diem" tattoo on my left ankle.  Once, a man I met thought it said Grape Deem and then faked like that was really cool. He looked really dumb. lol
8. I finished high school in three years, I skipped my junior year by going to summer school.
9.I often walk around with messy hands because I never feel like putting on gloves and I use cotton balls when dyeing thread.
10. I have long (ish) hair because I don't want to spend the money to have it cut, nor do I want to cut it myself.
11. I dislike shoe shopping so much that I literally have no shoes.  I had a pair of Crocs that I wore for over year, but they started hurting my feet very badly and the skin on my feet actually started peeling... still don't know what that was all about.  But I got rid of those shoes.  Now I only have a pair of pink flip flops that I am just really hoping will last.... forever.

Q & A
Do you know where Zimbabwe is? I know it's in the southern part of Africa.
Do you have children? Yes, one little Angel named Olivia, or as I call her "Livi"
Do you prefer hot weather or cold? neither.  I don't like being too hot or too cold.  But I like warm and cool.
Do you think that becoming a vegetarian will save the planet? I don't think that "saving the planet" is as "easy" as that.  There has to be a change in overall attitude, to switch from "take-take" and "getting by for the day" to "give-give-share" and "sustainable living/ eating"
What sort of car do you drive? 2007 Chevy Malibu (in red) My daddy bought it for me because when I was 8 months pregnant,(in 2007) my current car brought down when I was on my way to work.  He didn't want to take the chance of that happening after I had Livi.
Do you talk on the phone while driving? No, I've tried.  Livi gets on to me.  How can you say no to "Momma, you are supposed to drive with two hands!" lol
  Are you a dog-person or a cat-person? I love them both.
Do you cook from scratch? No, and it's probably for the best.
lol no... I don't cook from scratch, nor do I cook.
What’s your favourite dessert? Hot fudge sundae
Are you a teacher? no
Do you have green fingers? Sometimes after dyeing green thread.

Questions I have

1.  You are walking and you come up on a skunk, what is your first thought?
2  2.  Did you know that only 5% of the population can touch all of the their top teeth with their tongue?
3.  Do you think a picture is actually worth a thousand words?
4.  Number 2 is completely false, but did you try it when you read that?
5.  What is your favorite scent?
6.  How many pairs of shoes do you own?
7. How do you feel about socks?
8.  What was the last movie you saw at the theater?
9. Do you have any siblings?
10.How often do you blog?
11. How do you feel about caffeine?

Tagging people I don't know:
Lorene

** This part has yet to be done, but if you would like to be tagged, please tell me... and I'll tag you!**

Sorry I know I am breaking the rules on that one. ;o)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now to the pictures that I promised for yesterday:
How about "My Bleeding Heart"
I just came up with that.  I love being able to google images.

Love this one! I am so tempted to call this one "Jess!-ilicious" but I happen to know that Etsy won't let you put a "!" in the title... so that won't work.
So, how about "Genii" for the Genii Fuschia flower.

Now, this one already had a name because I've been thinking about it for a little while now :o) "Macarons"

This picture makes these colors look washed out, but really the color is dark and very lovely.
This is Sally's suggestions for "Night Thunder"

I have been working so hard on these but I hope that it will be time well spent. :o)

I am going to add some of these and the Messy-Jess!-y to the shops. I wouldn't want anyone to miss out on these great colors just because they can't make it to Tat Days!  Plus, Livi's starting kindergarten this August, so I need to tackle her supplies list and save money for the gas to Toccoa! So, it'll be in everyone's best interest for me to list these now. :o)
Also, colorways that are in both shops are being set at $7.20 in the Etsy shop and only $6.80 on Storenvy.

I will be working at counting exactly how many I have of each colorway and writing a brief description for them tonight.  My plan will be to have them all listed by tomorrow afternoon.
